One of the most common misconceptions about psychotherapy is that you must be going through a crisis to seek support. We all face challenges in life, and therapy offers a non-judgemental and confidential space to explore those difficulties.
The process of therapy serves to support your journey of healing by supporting you to understand and transform patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that cause issues in your life.
It can take courage to reach out. The free 30-minute call is a pressure free space to get to know me, so that you can get a sense if we are a good fit.
I will listen intently to your reasons for coming to therapy and let you know how I can support you. We can discuss what expectations you have for our work together, to make sure we're on the same page.
I offer 50-minute sessions online, and my practice operates on a sliding scale, between €30 - €40.
The upper side of the scale falls considerably below the average price of therapy in Ireland. This does not reflect the quality of my work, but rather acknowledges the fact that while I have completed the compassionate inquiry professional training, I am still in training for my MSc program. The lower end of the scale is intended for students and lower income individuals. The session rate is discussed and agreed upon together in the first session.
I also have a limited number of (mainly in-person) slots available with a further reduced rate for those with limited financial means living in Athens. Please reach out if you would like to attend, but that finances are currently a barrier.
The cancellation policy has a notice period of 24 hours. Sessions that are cancelled within that time, or not attended must be paid in full.
Safety in therapy is based on the guarantee that what you share in session cannot be disclosed to a third party without your permission. My work abides strictly by the ethical framework of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy, and apart from being bound by law, my personal ethos ensures that your information is held in the strictist confidence.
Exceptions to confidentiality arise when required by law, or when there is a risk of danger to yourself and others.
The number of sessions is something that we can explore together in the first session. Some people come to therapy with a very specific challenge to explore, and others participate in psychotherapeutic work as an ongoing process of self-discovery and personal development.
Every new relationship takes time, and I find that beginning with 6 weeks of weekly sessions will give you a sense of whether you are benefiting from our work together.
My work is CI informed having completed the year-long professional training. Belwo is how CI is described by the institute.
Compassionate Inquiry® is a psychotherapeutic approach created by Dr. Gabor Maté over several decades while working with both patients and retreat participants. This approach gently uncovers and releases the layers of childhood trauma, constriction and suppressed emotion embedded in the body, that are at the root of mental and physical illness and addiction.
When clients perceive the therapeutic relationship as a safe container, compassion and curiosity allow them to acknowledge and examine the traumatic events that happened to them as children, recognize the beliefs they internalized, and feel the emotions they suppressed. This contributes to the healing process.
Using Compassionate Inquiry, both the individual and therapist unveil the level of consciousness, mental climate, hidden assumptions, implicit memories and body states that form the real message that words both express and conceal.
When we can release ourselves from the hold of these stories, a new way of being emerges, leading to spontaneity, choice, expansion and freedom.
I have worked internationally with people from different cultural backgrounds. I have a special interest in working with people who are feeling stuck, and are asking questions of how to move froward in life with clarity. I have particular experience in supporting people who have experienced challenges with intimate relationships and sexuality.
People I have worked with have often been interested in the work of Gabor Mate and were curious to try the Compassionate Inquiry approach.
